We have desks, but I would much rather have tables! The desks just seem to be a place for them to store paper scraps and pencil shavings, and it is the place where important papers go to die lol!
Thanks so much, Jeannine. Interesting about the challenges of group work with desks. I've always thought I wanted desks but that is very true in regards to making it difficult for group work! Thanks!
Last year I had double wide desks. When you push two together it creates a table. We all thought the double- wides would be great because of pushing them together, BUT it means two kids sit beside each other like Siamese twins. Whenever we needed to rearrange the room it meant kids had to empty their desks to move. It did make our desks neater, however, as we moved often! This year I switched to the STEM Lab and in there I have very large tables that seat four kids in a row- on stools! I like the tables better!
I have desks and HATE how big they are!! I would much rather have tables that I can then just have community supplies, or a place for students to store their personal supplies that they will pull out when needed.
I have desks and actually don't mind them. It gives me way more flexibility in seating arrangements. We need a lot of snow gear so my coat closet gets really full. I have my kids store their *empty* backpacks in their desks and their binders/things in a chair cover. They don't get into them until the end of the day.
I switched to tables and I won't go back! Desks end up being garbage collectors. Also, we often make so many large projects that I wanted smooth surfaces rather than the ends of the desks causing a bump in our work. ~Heather The Meek Moose The Meek Moose on TpT

I've always thought that I wanted desks but you make a good point here! :)
DeleteWe have desks too and no good way to arrange them for group work. I love the way your classroom looks so organized and inviting!

We have tables. I really want round tables for my classroom, but so does everyone else!
