Winter writing, math notebooks, and MLK

It was a busy short week!  Short week because the kiddos have no school but we do....Professional Development. It's time for Five for Friday with Doodle Bugs Teaching.

After taking down all the holiday hoopla my bulletin boards were looking a little naked so we were on a mission to do craftivities- I mean writing work.

These "Oh no, What's in my cocoa?" craftivities writing projects by SunnyDays (can I say projects?!) are adorable.  They look so cute displayed!
I love these Interactive Math Notebooks by Blair Turner! The kiddos love them too.  It's a nice break from the 4 page per lesson math workbook but that's a whole 'nother post.

We have been working hard learning about Martin Luther King this week with my MLK close Read

We read Snowmen at Night and brainstormed ideas on how our snowman could melt. We wrote about how we made a snowmen, where it was, and how it melted.

Our classroom mascot, Charlie, has been very busy this week reading with kids, cuddling, and helping settle some of my kiddos who have had some emotional struggles this week. Charlie’s presence has been such a comfort, providing both encouragement and support when it’s needed most.

For organizing Charlie’s schedule or tracking student engagement, tools like Notion and Render integrations can help streamline planning and keep everything running smoothly. These integrations can assist in creating a centralized system to manage tasks, document Charlie’s impact, and even organize activity ideas for your classroom. 🐾📚❤️

Make sure to hop back her next Sunday for some more tips and tricks for Back to School from.....me! :)

Five for Friday

Once again, it's time for the Five for Friday linky party with Doodlebugs Teaching

I am getting ready for the Teachers Pay Teachers Conference in Las Vegas in a few weeks.  I love this business card Dreamlike Magic Designs made for me to correlate with my blog design!  I can't wait for them to come in!

I'm also super excited that some of my classroom decor came in the mail from Schoolgirl Style yesterday!

I plan on using the blue and white fans and green polka dot pom pom for a corner of a bulletin board and the hanging lanterns will go on top of a bookshelf since we aren't allowed to hang them at my school.  I love Schoolgirl Style's Preppy Nautical set!

I worked really hard this week to complete a math interactive notebook set on time.

Are you notebooking?  I just love interactive notebooks!  I love how they keep the kiddos invested and engaged.  I also love how they serve as a great reference, especially since the kiddos make them themselves.  You can check it out in my TPT store by clicking on the pic above.

I'm spending lots of time with these two this summer.  My son, Tyler and my dog Bentley and I'm loving every minute of it!

I'm also doing a ton of reading.  I've read 3 books in the past week alone.  Don't you just love having the chance to get caught on the things that you want/need to do but don't have time for during the school year?  I'd love to hear about your week!

I'm loving it!

I'm loving this summer vacation, how about you? I also loving Covered in Glitter and Glue's  linky appropriately titled...

Just hop on over to her site, grab the button above, blog about what you're loving, click on the "add your link" button at the end of her post and that's it!  Easy, peasy!  So here's what I'm loving...

I'm loving this anchor chart storage system that I found on Pinterest.  Click on the picture to take you to the site.  My name is Julie and I'm addicted to anchor charts.  Currently, I have been doing this to store anchor charts

but I like the lack of space that Teaching with a Mountain View uses.

I am obsessed with interactive notebooks lately.  I started using them at the end of this school year when our math curriculum needed to be supplemented to meet the common core standards.  The kiddos love them!  They are a great reference guide, the interactive nature keeps them interested and motivated, and I love how they also serve as a great reference guide.  There were quite a few times when I said to a kiddo "check your notebook for help."  There are some great interactive math notebooks on TPT such as this one by Lucky Little Learners.

I am currently working on making a math interactive notebook on time that I hope to post within the need week or so.

This is the design/color scheme I have chosen for my classroom this year

This is the Preppy Nautical Lime Green Collection from Schoolgirl Style and I am in love!  Have you checked out her site?  I can pretty much guarantee it that you would not leave without making a purchase.  I cannot decorate my classroom each year without her.

I would love to hear what you're loving!  Send me along a comment below or link up to share!

Winding down

I just love Friday's!  Not just because it's the start of the weekend but also because it means it's time for another Doodlebugs: Five for Frday.  I love checking through everyone's blog posts over the weekend from Five for Friday's linky party.  And I do read....every one.

We are winding down the school year.  We have 15 days left!  :)

The kiddos are very excited to be finishing up their Everyday Math journals.  Truth is, I can't say I blame them!

Finishing up our math journals means we have more time to review with our Interactive Math Notebooks.  I posted about this last week.  I can't say it enough....my kids LOVE these!

I bought these interactive math notebooks from Blair Turner on TPT.

I find it helpful to project the product on my SMARTboard so the kiddos can see what it looks like prior to cutting and gluing.

  After reading the book

we practiced using sound effects in our writing.  I modeled writing a story using words as sound effects and I called student volunteers up to find and underline these words in my writing.  We also identified and underlined "sparkle words"- words that make our writing interesting.  Words like cool and crisp, as we discussed, really helped us picture how cold the water was in our minds.

Our word wall is really filling up with high frequency words.  We add four words a week, based on our district's spelling program.  Each day, students complete one of these worksheets in which they identify how many vowels and consonants are in the word, use the word in a telling sentence, and write the word in an asking sentence.

I finally finished up my American Symbols unit that I have been working on all week!  I love how it came out and it has become one of my favorite products.  Click on the picture below if you are interested in checking it out.

I hope ya'll had a great week!
